The
road leading to Châteaufort is tiny, and so is the village! Perched
in a tranquil spot among wooded hills, Châteaufort has a beautiful
church built from yellow stone that overlooks the village, and just fifteen
or so houses below, half of which are uninhabited and more or less in
ruins.
If
you like complete tranquillity you'll love the pure air and the streets
invaded by weeds, the big fountain dated 1885 under a venerable lime
tree, one or two well renovated farms, and of course the remains of
a fortified castle, an old stone tower that has now been converted into
a private residence.
When you visit, nothing will disturb the calm apart from the soothing
gurgling of the fountain and the noisy singing of the cicadas. Why not
buy one of those old barns to restore? |
