July is the month of superlatives in Provence. The heat is here to stay, the cicadas are singing their hearts out, and the region is in full swing with a concentration of festivals and events found nowhere else in France.

Early July

THE CHORÉGIES D'ORANGE in Orange (Vaucluse)
Since 1869, France’s oldest opera festival has taken over the Théâtre Antique d’Orange, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Opera, symphony concerts, and spectacular shows under the starry sky of Provence. The “Musiques en fête” evening kicks off the season in early June, broadcast live on France 3. From June 19 to July 18, 2026.

MONDIAL LA MARSEILLAISE À PÉTANQUE in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône)
The world’s largest pétanque tournament, with nearly 13,000 participants. A major sporting and community festival open to everyone, with prizes for all! July 5–8 this year.

JAZZ À PORQUEROLLES on the island of Porquerolles (Var)
A festival bringing together outstanding jazz musicians in the idyllic setting of the island of Porquerolles (across from Hyères). A great atmosphere and great music to enjoy to your heart’s content… a real treat! July 10–14

THE HORSE FESTIVAL in Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer (Bouches-du-Rhône)
In the Camargue, the horse reigns supreme, and it is celebrated in style to the sound of flamenco music and Camargue traditions: Abrivado, bullfighting, pegoulado, novillada… Sound and light show and equestrian performance. July 10–13, 2026

THE PYROTECHNIC ART FESTIVAL in Cannes (Alpes-Maritimes)
