Lavender of Provence

Various types of lavender:

There is three different types of lavender. The most frequently cultivated is the "Lavandin".

Fine or true lavender

Can be found growing wild or cultivated on the dry Mid-August, Honey and lavender day hills between 600 and 1 500 metres. It gives a refined essence which is much appreciated for its aromatic qualities.

Aspic or large lavender

Grows wild up to 600 - 800 metres altitude. Its essence is very camphorated and is used in paints and varnishes.

This is a hybrid crossing true and and aspic lavender and does not reproduce naturally. Lavandin is very resistant and grown for its profligate harvest. It's the most frequently cultivated lavender in gardens in Provence. There are a number of types of lavandin ( grosso, abrial, super, etc...).
