This old railway village used to have the only depot between Nice and Marseille in the time of the steam engines. At that time there were 500 railwaymen working in this town on about 100 locomotives.
There is still one (1893) proudly displayed at the entry to Carnoules.
Today Carnoules is a village belonging to its inhabitants and is more a place to go through than a place to stay.
It does have quite a history and was the scene of a battle between Henry IV and the Duc of Savoie in 1592.
