Lafare
is a pretty village situated right in the centre of the Dentelles de Montmirail.
This little market town with its steep charming lanes seems to stand sentry
over the east slope of the ragged crest opposite.
The village is made up of
a just a few houses. There are only about 100 inhabitants here in all.
This does not make it a deserted village for all of that, because Lafare
is the starting point for many walking trails in the Dentelles de Montmirail.
To reach this starting point, take a little road north which first descends
into the ravine, then goes up again towards the Dentelles. A footpath
on the left takes you to a waterfall within 5 minutes, which you would
not expect to find in this arid countryside in the middle of the gorge.
From the Salle cliffs you
have a lovely view of the Dentelles de Montmirail and the Dentelles Sarrasines.
After the last bend, you will have a marvellous vantage point from which
to view the valley. The path leading off to the right will take you to
the chapel of Saint Christophe which is well worth a visit.
