What are the must-see places?
The medieval citadel
The Citadel, built in the 12th century, is the only feudal fortification that has remained intact in Haute-Provence. This fortress dominates the village from its rocky peak.
You can explore it by climbing to the top of the village via the cobbled streets and walking around the citadel walls, where you will see the machicolated gate and the corner watchtowers. The panoramic view stretches as far as the Luberon.
The ramparts date from the 12th century and bear witness to Mane's strategic importance in the Middle Ages.
The Priory of Salagon
The Priory of Salagon, a historic monument built on Roman ruins, is now a museum and ethnological garden. This must-see site is located 2 kilometers from the village.
The ethnological museum presents rural life in Provence. The botanical gardens are home to more than 2,000 species of aromatic and medicinal plants.
The Roman bridge that led pilgrims across the Laye River to the Priory of Salagon is also a remarkable relic worth discovering.
The Château de Sauvan
The Château de Sauvan is distinguished by its architecture inspired by the Petit Trianon in Versailles. This 18th-century gem houses period furniture and magnificent gardens.
Nicknamed the “Petit Trianon of Provence,” this listed château offers guided tours. The period salons and French gardens provide an exceptional setting.
Saint-André Church and bell tower
You will discover the Baroque façade of Saint-André Church (15th and 17th centuries) framed by two monumental doors. You can't miss the bell tower and its 31-meter-high stone tower.
The characteristic bell tower of Mane is one of the symbols of the village. Recently restored, it dominates the architectural ensemble.
The pointed huts
Everywhere you look, you will see “pointed huts,” incorrectly referred to as Bories. These small dry stone huts are masterpieces of rural architecture and testify to the remarkable skill of their builders.
These traditional constructions dot the surrounding countryside. A 2.5-hour hiking trail allows you to discover them.
