What are the must-see places?

The Porte Sarrasine is the main entrance to the medieval village. This fortified gate bears witness to Seillans' defensive past and marks the beginning of your journey back in time.

The Saint-Léger church, built on 11th-century Romanesque foundations, dominates the Place de la République. Its 15th-century marble holy water font is a listed historical monument. The bell tower and semicircular apse are also worth seeing.

Although the medieval castle cannot be visited inside, it is a fine example of defensive architecture. The tower known as the “bishop's house” and the 11th-century keep can be seen perfectly from the outside.

The Chapel of Notre-Dame de l'Ormeau, located 2 km away on the RD19, is one of the jewels of Provençal Romanesque art. Its 16th-century Baroque altarpiece, carved from a single tree trunk, tells the story of the Virgin Mary's family tree.

Don't miss the Place du Thouron with its fountain shaded by two-hundred-year-old plane trees. This is where you will find Max Ernst's sculpture “Le Génie de la Bastille” (The Genius of the Bastille), a true symbolic self-portrait of the artist.

Cobbled streets such as Rue de la Boucherie and Rue du Valat reveal fascinating architectural details. Golden stone facades, ancient doors, and vaulted passageways punctuate your stroll.
