What are the must-see attractions?
Carcès’ main attractions are concentrated in two areas: the old hilltop village and the lake at the bottom of the valley.
Here are the must-sees:
The medieval castle — Dating back to the 16th century, it was partially destroyed after World War II and renovated in the 2000s. It now hosts exhibitions; visitors are welcome to explore freely outside of event times.
The glazed-tile facades — These facades, characteristic of the Var region and facing the east side of the houses, protect them from water seepage during storms. They are believed to date back to the 18th century.
The painted murals — Several frescoes depict life in Carcès in days gone by and the arrival of Louis XIV in Carcès. The main mural is located across from the Jean Jaurès parking lot.
The Clock Tower and the Fountain of the Four Seasons — two landmarks in the historic center not to be missed.
The Notre-Dame-de-Caramy Chapel — it has been listed as a heritage site since 1988.
Lake Carcès — also known as Lake Sainte-Suzanne, it covers 100 hectares with 8 km of shoreline. It is a popular spot for anglers, with carp, perch, pikeperch, and pike.
The Caramy Falls — the Caramy River originates in the Sainte-Baume massif before joining the Argens River in Carcès. Its falls are a popular resting spot for hikers.
Le Hameau des Vignerons — the third-largest cooperative winery in the Var region with 600 hectares of vineyards, specializing in rosé. The shop is open for tastings and sales.
