How long does it take to explore Roaix?
Half a day is enough to see the main sights in Roaix. The village is small and can be easily explored on foot.
Allow two hours to stroll through the narrow streets of the old hilltop village, visit Saint-Roch Church, and admire the view over the valley.
If you also want to see the Notre-Dame-des-Crottes chapel in the hamlet of the same name, add an extra hour. The village is particularly suitable for a morning visit, before the summer heat sets in.
You can also combine Roaix with a visit to nearby Vaison-la-Romaine. In this case, allow a full day.

Where to park in Roaix?
Parking in Roaix is generally easy outside of peak season. The village offers several free parking options. There is a car park near the post office, in the lower part of the village along the main road.
During the high season and during events such as the village festival in early July, parking spaces are harder to find. We recommend arriving early in the morning to find a parking space easily. All parking lots in Roaix are clearly marked on our interactive map at the top of this page.
To access the old hilltop village, it is best to park at the bottom and walk up. The streets in the historic center are narrow and difficult to navigate by car.

What are the must-see places?
The Romanesque chapel of Notre-Dame-des-Crottes is a remarkable remnant of the 12th-century Templar Commandery. Only the apse remains today, but it bears witness to the village's Templar past. This chapel is located in the hamlet of Les Crottes, a little way out of the village.
The Saint-Roch church, completed in 1736, stands in the old village. What makes it special? Its apse faces west instead of east. The privately owned Château de Roaix dominates the village from its hilltop location.
The old hilltop village is well worth a stroll. You will discover beautiful old stone houses, the remains of ramparts and a fountain. The view over the Ouvèze valley and the surrounding mountains is well worth the detour.
Vineyards cover more than 85% of the cultivated land, making Roaix the smallest Côtes du Rhône Villages appellation. The vineyard landscapes add to the charm of the place.
The archaeological site of the Crottes hypogeum bears witness to prehistoric occupation dating back to the end of the Chalcolithic period. Excavations have revealed exceptional burials and funerary objects.
