Verquières

The little village of Verquieres is situated in the Alpilles, in the north of the Bouches du Rhône and just a few kilometres from the Durance and Vaucluse.
Easily accessible and offering a wide range of interesting places to visit within a 30-kilometre radius, it is a great starting place from which to explore the whole region: Luberon, Camargue, Avignon, St Rémy, Les Baux de Provence, Arles, Tarascon...


Arriving at Verquieres, you will be surprised by the small size of the village and by the calm there is. A large avenue bordered by a few recent villas will lead you to the heart of the village, which boils down to a large flowery roundabout around which are settled the few traders of Verquieres by its side, the square which unites the church, the school and the town hall.

You can park on this small square pleasantly shaded by plane trees, you will notice the dapper and flowery town hall, you can then go around the church with its magnificent bell tower which is classified as a Historic Monument.

Right next to the church, you can enjoy a pleasant meal at the Restaurant Le Croque Chou which offers refined cuisine on a shaded terrace which has a lot of charm.
But few vestiges or monuments are to be visited in Verquieres which is not strictly speaking a high tourist place.

Beautiful walks are to be done in the surroundings of the village, the Saint Gens Oratory deserves your detour as well as the dovecote and the impressive pyramid framing the entrance to the Domaine de Beauplan.
The nature that surrounds the village is superb alternating cultivated fields and orchards, bordered by paths of cypress, pines and plane trees. The roads are rather flat and fairly uncrowded ... ideal for long bike rides!
