What are the must-see places in Ampus?

The Romanesque parish church of Saint-Michel is a must-see. In the Middle Ages, the church was part of a priory dependent on the Benedictine monks of Lérins. Of note are the hemispherical holy water font set into the façade and the bell, which is listed as a piece of movable property.

The ceramic Way of the Cross starts behind the church and leads to the top of the calvary overlooking the village. At the top, you will discover a beautiful panorama of the plains of Couan and Alby, the Collet Redon and the Nartuby gorges. The ceramic works date from 1968 and are signed by Geoff Hindry.

The Notre-Dame-de-Spéluque or Notre-Dame-du-Plan chapel is located to the northwest of the village. This chapel has been listed as a historic monument since June 26, 1990. It is an admirable construction with a beautiful structure, although it is now privately owned.

Ampus is located 15 km from Draguignan via the D955 towards Castellane, then the D49. The village is 25 km from the sea and 25 km from Lake Sainte-Croix. You can take the RD 49 towards Draguignan to the south, the RD 49 towards Vérignon to the north, or the RD 51 towards Tourtour to the east and Châteaudouble to the west.

By public transport, there is no direct connection from Nice, but you can take the train to Les Arcs-Draguignan and then a bus. The journey from Nice takes around 2 hours and 51 minutes, including connections.

From Fréjus, the distance is around 56 kilometers by car, which is an hour's drive. The departmental roads are well maintained and offer typical Provençal landscapes. Nearby towns include Châteaudouble (5.81 km), Tourtour (6.74 km), and Flayosc (8.26 km).
