What are the must-see places?

The upper church and its 86 steps

The upper church of Bonnieux, built in the 12th century and restored in the 15th and 16th centuries, dominates the village from an altitude of 425 meters. This Romanesque church offers an exceptional view of the Luberon and the surrounding villages. It is accessed by a staircase of 86 steps, and its architecture blends Provençal Romanesque and Gothic styles.

The Pont Julien, a Roman relic

The Pont Julien, located 5 kilometers from the village, is a Roman structure completed in 3 BC. This bridge spanned the Via Domitia, the great Roman road connecting Italy to Spain. Its exceptional state of preservation makes it the most beautiful Roman bridge in Provence.

A new modern bridge was built in 2005 to protect this historic monument from traffic. You can admire it during a bike ride along the Véloroute.

The Cedar Forest of Petit Luberon

The Cedar Forest covers approximately 250 hectares and offers an oasis of coolness on the crest of Petit Luberon. This exceptional cedar grove is located between the villages of Bonnieux and Lacoste, accessible by a narrow road overlooking the valley.

The site has been developed with a section accessible to people with reduced mobility. There are numerous hiking trails around the forest where you can discover these hundred-year-old Atlas cedars.

Remains of medieval heritage

In the village's narrow streets, you will discover remains of ramparts and towers dating back to the 12th century. The remarkable residences from the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries bear witness to Bonnieux's past prosperity when the region belonged to the Popes.

Don't miss the Tour Philippe, a curious 30-meter-high neo-medieval construction. It was built around 1885 by Philippe Audibert, who dreamed of seeing the sea from his home, and on a clear day you can see the Étang de Berre.
