Joucas
Discover the pretty Luberon village of Joucas, near Gordes
Joucas is a beautiful village set on a hillside facing the Roussillon ochres. A true haven of peace, the village lets you enjoy its sumptuous landscapes while staying away from the tourist hustle and bustle of other Luberon villages.
An ancient village, typical of the Vaucluse region.
Joucas has pleasant, picturesque little winding streets, paved in the old-fashioned staircase style, where you can stroll leisurely on foot. You'll pass beautiful stone houses and flower-filled nooks and crannies as you discover the village's charms and its many architectural details.
A superb church
You won't want to miss the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church, which may look rather ordinary from the outside (rebuilt in 1766), but inside is a veritable museum of the Italian art of trompe l'oeil painting. It's superb! You've been warned!
A pretty windmill
Joucas is also home to a charming 19th-century windmill. The mill and its mechanism have recently been restored to their former glory, when they produced the village's daily flour.
Sculptures at the Labyrinthe d'Art
Magnificent human sculptures created by artists Mieke Heybroek and Ulysse Plaud can be found in the Labyrinthe d'Art in the heart of the village. Now deceased, these two artists had a profound impact on the artistic life of the village.
