Carry Le Rouet is a charming seaside resort just 30 km from Marseille. Nestled at the foot of pine-covered hills, Carry is at the heart of the Côte Bleue, which stretches from Marseille to Martigues, and is one of the Bouches du Rhône's most beautiful beach destinations.

A village loved by Fernandel

Carry Le Rouet is home to many of Marseilles' summer residents. The most famous of these is undoubtedly the late Fernandel (the great Provencal-born film actor who starred in most of Pagnol's films), who built his family home above the port's beaches in the 1930s.

He loved Carry and his good humor enlivened the village square with memorable games of pétanque. Today, a stele honors his memory in the square.

You'll love the charming little port that makes Carry so picturesque. Boats and fishing boats sit alongside sailboats and gliders.

The quayside is lined with numerous restaurants with wide terraces, and you're sure to find it hard to resist their fish specialties flavored with olive oil and garrigue herbs.

Numerous festivities

If you can, from December to February, don't miss the famous “oursinades”, a tasting of sea urchins and shellfish (ultra-fresh and plentiful), which are excellent here and attract enthusiasts from all over the département.

There are many beautiful walks along the seafront, and you can also take a boat trip from Carry to discover the famous calanques of the Côte Bleue and Cassis.

Where to walk in Carry-le-Rouet?

The corniche that runs along the coast from the port to Sausset les Pins offers superb sea views. Its sumptuous villas are scattered over wooded hills and fragrant pine forests.

It's worth pointing out that Carry has the good fortune to unite on the same site an exceptional natural environment (still preserved from the excesses of urban development) with a seafront, beaches, pine forests and a friendly little port (with good restaurants), just 30 km from Marseille and less than 1 hour from an international airport. It's really ideal... but don't spread it around too much, it'll get too crowded!
