Flayosc winds around its bell tower on a rocky plateau overlooking the Flayosquet Valley. Above the rooftops, the wrought-iron bell tower of Saint-Laurent Church stands out against the Var sky.

Here, water flows everywhere. It flows through the canal dug in the 14th century under Queen Jeanne. It gurgles in the fountains and fills the 19th-century covered washhouse at the village entrance.
This medieval village in Provence is located in Dracénie, very close to Draguignan. The town bills itself as the “first gateway to the Haut-Var.” You can still enter through three historic gates: the Porte Dorée, the Porte de Paris, and the Porte de la Reinesse.
On Monday mornings, the market brings the squares to life. In the shade of the plane trees on Place de la République, cafés set up shop near the historic fountain. All around, olive groves and vineyards of the Côtes de Provence shape the landscape.

Exploring the village
You enter the medieval center through one of three gates: the Porte Dorée, the Porte de Paris, or the Porte de la Reinesse. The streets wind their way up to the 11th-century Saint-Laurent Church and its wrought-iron bell tower.
Water is everywhere. The 14th-century Queen Jeanne Canal still runs through the village. On Place de la Reinesse, the washhouse is sheltered beneath a massive plane tree.
End your stroll at Place de la République, on the terrace of a café near the historic fountain. On Monday mornings, the Provençal market brings the squares to life.
Wine and olive oil
Along with wine, olives are the source of Flayosc’s prosperity. Three mills produce extra virgin olive oil: the Flayosquet, the Combette, and the Foncabrette.
The Flayosquet, a 13th-century watermill, has been owned by the same family for five generations. As for wine, the Cellier des 3 Collines cooperative winery sells the commune’s Côtes de Provence AOC wines.

Flayosc is made for vacations focused on nature and heritage. Marked trails lead from the village into the hills, olive groves and vineyards. The hike to the Sauveclare waterfall, 3 km (2 miles) to the south, remains the most popular walk.

Then follow the spiraling streets up to the old Saint-Laurent church. The "Au fil de l'eau" trail guides you along the canal, from fountain to washhouse. Half a day is enough for the center, a full day if you add a hike.

Driving remains the most convenient option. Flayosc is 8 km (5 miles) from Draguignan and 7 km (4 miles) from Lorgues.
By train, the nearest station is Les Arcs-Draguignan, about 13 km (8 miles) away, or 17 minutes by car. By bus, a regular service links Flayosc to Draguignan on the Tedbus network.
