The village of Carnoules is located in central Var, between
Toulon and the Gulf of
Saint Tropez.
Strategically located inland, less than 40km from the beaches of d'
Hyeres and 35 km from the center of Toulon, Carnoules is fortunate to be served by a motorway exit and a SNCF station which serves
Toulon,
Marseille,
Nice and joins outline quickly..
This allows its inhabitants to radiate throughout the region easily whether it is for work or for leisure. The village is also for these reasons in full development with several new real estate programs.
Formerly Carnoules was a village of railway workers, it was the only depot of steam traction between
Nice and
Marseille.
All trains on this line had to stop at Carnoules to change the motor. Carnoules then had 500 railway workers working in the village for a hundred locomotives.
Carnoules has had a long tradition with trains and railways. From this great time, there remains today a locomotive (type 4B-9 and its tender from 1893) proudly displayed at the school and supermarket roundabout at the entrance of the village.
The tradition continues today thanks to an association of rail enthusiasts who have succeeded in reopening the Carnoules -
Brignoles line for the
Center Var tourist train.
These are railcars, the famous Michelines that will make you discover the magnificent landscapes of the
Var.
For the little ones and even the older ones, a detour to the Tortoise Village Tortupole will allow you to discover the famous Herman tortoise (on the D97 road between Carnoules and
Pignans).
A beautiful walk is to be made up to the Notre-Dame de la Viere chapel which offers from the top of its 350 m altitude a panoramic view of the Maures massif and the
Pierrefeu plain.
