At the gateway to the Haute Ubaye and the Mercantour National Park, at the end of the Bonette road (the highest in Europe, which climbs the pass of the same name to an altitude of 2802 metres), and on the banks of the tumultuous Ubaye river, the village of Jausiers has no reason to complain about its environment!
In addition to its sumptuous natural setting at an altitude of 1250 m - fir trees, vast meadows and crisp mountain air - this large mountain village will also win you over with its pleasant pedestrian street with pastel-coloured facades, its Château des Magnans, its many gîtes, tables d'hôtes and other charming, welcoming hotels, its Café des Arcades and its colourfully-painted Musée de la Vallée.
Clean and beautifully restored, Jausiers has a cheerful face, with a pretty square around a fountain, beside which you can admire the beautiful church of Saint Nicolas de Myre, in a sober Baroque style, without gilding or embellishments, based on the Piedmont model.
In fine weather, enjoy the waters of the Siguret lake, a small lake at the foot of the village. The people of Jausiers love to relax here, with supervised swimming for children, a large zip line that ends in the water and a water-ski cableway... in short, a great place to have a good time and cool off in summer!
History buffs won't forget that Jausiers was the birthplace of the Arnaud brothers, famous in the Valley for their emigration to Mexico at the beginning of the 19th century, where they made their fortune: in fact, a plaque reminds us that they lived in a former ‘silk mill’ before leaving for Louisiana, where they founded Arnaudville.
Open-air activities or historical heritage, fresh air, good meals, goat's cheese tasting, local charcuterie or génépi, walks in the Ubaye Valley... Jausiers offers you a very ‘natural’ holiday.
The pretty Jausiers market takes place every Sunday morning at the foot of the superb Eglise St Nicolas de Myre. It's a great opportunity to stock up on good local produce and take a stroll around the village. It's a very pleasant market in the Alpes de Haute Provence.
