Discover the small village of Peyruis near Manosque
Peyruis is located on the right bank of the Durance, in a green wooded setting surrounded by hills. At the top of the village, you can see the ruins of its feudal castle, a strategic fortress until the 1789 Revolution.
Old houses and pretty fountains
As you stroll through the pleasant little streets in the village center, you'll discover some beautiful old houses (some with details of 16th and 17th century facades). You'll come across a few old fountains that generously pour out the pure water of the valley's springs.
A pretty Provencal church
The parish church is worth a visit for its 17th-century stained glass windows, 19th-century murals and 15th-century Gothic furnishings.
Saint Roch chapel
Located at the end of the village near the cemetery, this historic chapel dates back to 1720, when it was built as a result of a public subscription launched to protect Peyruis from the Great Plague then raging in Marseille. It was formerly the place of worship of the Pénitents blancs de Peyruis. The building comprises a single nave with entirely bare walls, pierced by two openings that let in natural light. A beautiful chapel not to be missed.
Place de la République
Stop off at Place de la République, delightfully shaded by plane trees, for a game of boules and enjoy the gentle Provencal atmosphere that reigns in Peyruis.
An oil mill and a traditional soap factory
For lovers of local produce, don't miss the Henry Paschetta oil mill and soap factory. They produce Provence olive oil and Marseille soap using traditional methods. You can find out more about these products in their store (see our map and check opening times in low season).
A good restaurant in Peyruis
If you're looking for a nice little restaurant in Peyruis, we can recommend “Les 4 saisons”. Traditional French cuisine, well prepared. It's not a gastronomic establishment, but it's a nice home cooking place where you'll have a good time.
