Discover the village of Villeneuve, near Manosque
Villeneuve is situated on a lush, green hillside overlooking La Durance valley, in the south-east of the Forcalquier region.
The village has successfully preserved its historic past and it is a pleasure to walk in the narrow streets at the heart of the old village.
You will come across beautiful houses built around a dome with a belfry and bell-tower at its summit. Historic stones, pretty door-ways, narrow streets... you will soon be enchanted by the place.
Do not miss the enormous rock "vive" on the D13 known as La Roche Amère and visible from all directions.
Originally this rock was part of the Luberon and was swept away by the Largue river.
Strategically situated, it has always been occupied even in historic times. Today you can see the ruins of the medieval village "de la Roque", including the keep and the restored Notre Dame chapel as well as numerous migratory birds who have chosen to make it their home... the view is exceptional and you can reach the look-out point by taking the uphill path 100 m north of the Villeneuve church!
