Le Caire
From Sisteron, take the D 951 for 26 km
Although Le Caire is more a hamlet than a village nowadays, it does have its own car park, fountain and plane tree, its quiet lanes where sometimes grass grows in the middle of the street, its old barns built from fine pink stone, more or less abandoned, its perched church from where a fine view is to be had of the Roman tile roofs, and of the astonishing grey hills, with creases like an elephant's skin!
Perhaps you will be captivated by the beautifully renovated houses several hundred years old, with their lavender coloured shutters and little gardens filled with sumptuous hydrangeas, from which sometimes can be heard a little classical music: enough to imagine you're living in another era, when time didn't matter!
