Discover the charming village of La Tour d'Aigues in the Luberon
Located in the southern part of the Luberon, La Tour d'Aigues is a pleasant village on the banks of the Eze River in the Luberon Regional Nature Park.
Primarily agricultural, La Tour d'Aigues is surrounded by vast cultivated plains and vine-covered hillsides that produce a renowned wine. Here you are at the foot of the Grand Luberon, between the hills and the Durance plain.
A magnificent Renaissance castle
The capital of the Aigues valley, this large village is fortunate to offer its visitors the ruins of a Renaissance castle whose architecture is well worth a visit.
The Château de La Tour d'Aigues will remind you of certain Renaissance castles in the Loire Valley and more particularly in the Ile de France, which inspired its design.
The elegant proportions of the 16th-century facades offer a striking contrast to the more sober castles in the region.
A veritable theater set, you can easily imagine the past splendor of this Renaissance building as you admire the still-intact gate, which stands like a triumphal arch, one of the most beautiful in Provence.
The remains of the castle belong to the Vaucluse General Council, which is responsible for the restoration work. Little by little, the castle is regaining its original appearance... the castle's cellars now house a museum of earthenware, which brings together ancient pieces found during the restoration work, and a well-documented museum-exhibition on the history of the Aigues region.
Les Nuits du Château
Every summer, the castle hosts the Tour d'Aigues International Dance Festival. You can enjoy superb performances by artists in this exceptional setting! When visiting the castle, don't miss its surprising and entertaining musical walk, where visitors can magically make the old stones of the castle courtyard “ring” just by walking on them! Children will never tire of it!
Wine culture
The region lives off agriculture and wine. The Cellier de Marrenon produces renowned Côtes du Luberon wines. The vineyards stretch across the hillsides surrounding the village. Some estates organize guided tours and tastings for visitors.
The Provençal market on Tuesdays
The village hosts a Provençal market every Tuesday morning on the castle square. You will also find the tourist office directly on the castle grounds. The streets of the historic center lead to the 13th-century Notre Dame de Romegas church.
