Your questions about the municipality of Lagnes

Since writing this guide, you have sent us several questions about Lagnes. Here are our answers to your most frequently asked questions, to inform all our readers.

What is the history of Lagnes?

The history of Lagnes goes back to Antiquity, but it was in the Middle Ages that the village really took shape. The first written records date from the 13th century, when Lagnes belonged to the powerful d'Agoult family.
The castle that dominates the village bears witness to this rich medieval past. Built as a defensive fortress, it was transformed over the centuries into a stately residence. Altered several times, notably in the 16th century, it still has architectural elements from different periods. Its imposing silhouette remains the symbol of Lagnes.
As you stroll through the old quarters, you will notice the remains of the ancient ramparts. These thick walls once protected the inhabitants from invasions and pillaging. Some of the entrance gates to the medieval enclosure are still visible, notably the main gate to the north of the village.
The religious heritage is also worth a visit. The parish church, although modest, contains some artistic treasures. Take the time to observe its architectural details, which tell the story of the evolution of the village over the centuries.

What are the events in Lagnes?

The Saint-Pierre festival at the end of July is the highlight of the year in Lagnes. For several days, the village comes alive with boules competitions, popular dances and fairground attractions. Don't miss the traditional aioli served in the central square, a typically Provençal moment of sharing.
To keep up to date with news and one-off events, check the tourist agenda available at the town hall or on the commune's website. Temporary exhibitions, concerts and guided walks are organized on a regular basis. These local initiatives, often organized by village associations, offer a different perspective on Lagnes and its surrounding area.

How do I get to Lagnes?

From the A7 motorway, take the Avignon Sud exit then follow the signs for L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. From there, Lagnes is only about ten minutes away. A vast network of departmental roads also serves the village from neighboring towns such as Fontaine-de-Vaucluse or Robion.
If you are traveling by train, the nearest station is at L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, about 7 km away. Regional buses then provide a link to Lagnes, but they do not run very frequently. Renting a car or taking a taxi is the most practical solution for the last few kilometers.
