Nestled in a vast agricultural plain with vineyards and olive groves, not far from Barjols, the village of Tavernes has an authentic feel. Its 18th-century bell tower and Saint-Cassien church are the village's main monuments.

A special feature of Tavernes is its 32 historic wells, some of which are even hidden in the dining rooms of old houses. Don't miss the splendidly carved doorways on the village's main street.

Notre Dame de Bellevue chapel

To the north of the village, the Notre-Dame de Bellevue chapel (dating from 1642) offers an exceptional panoramic view of the surrounding hills. A visit to this chapel is a wonderful way to walk up the hill, which rises to an altitude of 637m. You'll be able to enjoy a lovely view over the village and savor the tranquility of the surroundings.

Olive Festival

Olive oil lovers will appreciate the first Sunday in September, when the village proudly celebrates its new oil production with the “Journado de l'Oli” (Olive Day in Provençal). It's a chance to stock up on good local Provençal olive oil, watch demonstrations of olive tree pruning and taste an impressive giant aioli that attracts curious onlookers and gourmets from all over the Var department!

What to do in Tavernes

The Provencal market takes place every Thursday morning. The colorful stalls are brimming with local produce, providing an opportunity to stock up on good local produce and visit the village.

Nature lovers will appreciate the many marked trails around the village. A hike to the Trois Croix site reveals a lovely view of the Bessillons and the Valensole plateau.

The surrounding vineyards offer cellar tours and tastings of Coteaux Varois wines, a not-to-be-missed oenological experience in the heart of the Provencal terroir. You'll learn a lot and have a great time!
